1. Brief
Lockdown is a TryHackMe AI security room. The target is Bastion, an internal assistant used by Meridian Security Group for policy questions and operational support.
The audit found three issues:
- Data retrieval returned information the user should not receive
- Logs stored sensitive retrieved content
- User-level access could be bypassed with
QUERY AS
The goal was to confirm each issue, diagnose the root cause, and give Bastion the control it expected. Once Bastion accepted the fix, it returned a flag fragment.
Note: I found the fragments in a different order during the room, but the answers below are ordered the way TryHackMe asks for them.
2. Starting Point
The room tells us to query Bastion through the chat and use a few built-in commands:

3. Data Retrieval Vulnerability
What is the first flag fragment after fixing the data retrieval vulnerability?
Bastion was returning more than public policy content. It could surface confidential business and employee material, which means the retrieval pipeline was not applying access control before the model received context.
The key issue here was not the wording of the response. The problem sat earlier in the chain: confidential documents were eligible for retrieval in the first place.

I fixed it by telling Bastion to enforce role-based access control with data classification and response filtering.

Next I checked how Bastion handled logs.

Retrieved: Travel Policy, That is a clear logging issue. Even if the assistant response was locked down later, the logs were still storing sensitive content where another user or process could read it.

The right fix was log sanitization and data minimization. Bastion should record safe identifiers, not raw sensitive content, and log access should still respect authorization.

The last issue was user-level access. The room hint pointed at QUERY AS, so I tested whether Bastion trusted the name supplied in the prompt.

This room was a useful AI security control check. The three bugs mapped to common assistant/RAG failure points: retrieval without metadata filtering, logs containing sensitive context, and identity checks based on user-supplied text.
The important lesson is that AI access control has to happen outside the prompt. The model should only receive context the current authenticated user is allowed to see, and the same rule applies to logs, vector search, and tenant-scoped data.
